80-20 Rule for Job Seekers

80-20 Rule
What's this you ask? 67-88% of all referrals, leads, interviews, jobs, and clients are gained directly by your networking efforts. What does that mean, exactly? It means that the more time you spend NETWORKING..actually meeting people and engaging in productive dialogue with them, the better this is for your job or prospecting efforts. Networking on-line is also important, so don't forget to take advantage of free marketing and advertising with Linked In, Facebook, Twitter, etc.
However, networking needs some guidelines. When you are in full-job or client search mode, you must schedule time for networking on your calendar. First, you need to schedule some time to research what networking activities are appropriate for you. Next, you need to make the necessary arrangements to attend. Finally, you need to get up and out of your home and attend the event, even if you are not in the mood. Great jobs and fantastic clients are not going to knock on your door!! You need to go and find them.
So here's the 80-20 Rule: 80% of your time should be spent networking. 20% of your time should be spent on all other job/client search activities. It only makes sense to spend your time doing what is the most effective method to line up your next opportunity. Try it for 3 weeks.....and let me know what happens!
