What Have You Done? (For Me Lately)
I often tell my clients to keep this song in mind when they are writing their resume | bio | online content. Ultimately, that is what a hiring manager wants to know. What have you done and what were the results? These are your Accomplishments or Achievements, and should be the focus of your resume. Answer these questions with bullet points: “How did you raise the bar?”, “What did you do above and beyond at your last few jobs?”
Remember, each posted job opening has 6.7 applicants, so recruiters/hiring managers are spending very little time reviewing resumes (assuming your resume made it past the computer keyword filter). The main purpose of a resume in today's competitive environment is to clearly and quickly define your worth and highlight your major accomplishments.
So, hiring managers really do want to know “what have you done lately?” And if you are relying on your resume to get an interview, then you better make it real easy for them to figure out, quickly.
